Accra, Aug. 27, GNA - MTN, a leading mobile telecommunication network in the country on Thursday launched the FIFA World Cup 'Text To Go 2010' promotion for its customers and subscribers.
The initiative is designed to give subscribers the opportunity to win FIFA VIP packages every day and week to enable the winner watch and experience Africa's soccer mastery in South Africa .
Nii Nortey Dua, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports who 'kicked the ball' to launch the promotion said Ghana's participation in the World Cup for the second time was of particular importance to government and the Ministry especially with regards to the success chalked by the Black Stars in the first round of the qualifying series.
He commended MTN for introducing innovative products and services into the country, adding that the promotion is an innovative way of generating the type of excitement that deserves such a momentous occasion.
Nii Nortey Dua noted that MTN has been particularly supportive of sports in Ghana, with the sponsorship of the top four Premier League football teams, with Hockey and golf as just some of the contributions that they have made to sports development in the country.
The Deputy Minister said it is gratifying that the "Text Go to 2010" promotion is not only meant to create excitement but also to attract high interest of football lovers and the general public to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa .
He said "the promotion would also attract support for the nation's senior national Team-Black Stars as they step on an African soil to defend the flag of Ghana at the FIFA 2010 World Cup".
Mr Goerge Andah, Chief Marketing Officer of the MTN said 'Unity' was chosen as the theme for the event, adding that it is the expectation that through the tournament MTN would unite communities, football fans, workers, employees emerging markets and the world 'as we urged them to 'Go' and be part of the FIFA 2010 beautiful game'.
He said over the next 100 days, MTN would give back over eight million cedis worth of prizes made up of cash, cars and loads of MTN airtime and other consolation prizes to their cherished customers.
The Marketing Manager said under the daily initiative customers have the chance of winning ten mobile handsets, totaling a thousand 3.5G handsets and then ten MTN Airtime Vouchers of 100 Ghana Cedis, totalling a thousand vouchers.
He said in the weekly draw there is a brand new KIA Sorento 4 x 4 at stake from Rana Motors and an exclusive VIP package to the MTN sponsored FIFA 2010 World Cup and three separate 100 Ghana cedis grand prize jackpots.
Mr Andah said it is expected that every day 31 people will win a prize, every week one of the subscriber will drive away a brand new Kia Sorento and another will be getting ready to go to South Africa to enjoy the ultimate VIP treat for any soccer fan to witness the World Cup in grand style.
