The acting Minister of Youth & Sports, Hon. Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo last Friday interacted with the staff of National Sports Council (NSC) at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium, as part of his efforts to work effectively with the Council.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister stressed the need for commitment on the part of the workers so as to compliment the efforts of each other for the betterment of Ghana sports. He entreated the workers to be part of a collective desire to make a mark, as they share his vision of working hard to produce excellent results.
The Minister dismissed the notion of mafia in his outfit, saying that he rather sees staff who are willing to do their utmost best for the nation. He assured that he would not do anything to make anyone unhappy at the ministry, and hoped to work together with them on national interest, adding that he would facilitate the improvement of the workers' salaries. Hon. Pelpuo, who is also the Member of Parliament for Wa Central, hinted he would spell out his vision for the Ministry shortly.
NSC's acting chief executive officer, Mr. Wolanyo Agra, also impressed upon Hon. Pelpuo to patch up differences between the NSC and the National Youth Council (NYC) as regards the management of the Azumah Nelson Sports Complex at Kaneshie, in Accra.
In his contribution, Mr. Saka Acquaye, Greater Accra Regional Sports Development officer and the chairman of NSC workers union, called for stability, with reference to the tenure of ministers to aid them finish up projects.
The Secretary General for the Ghana Weightlifting Association, Mr. Richard O. Lamptey also reminded the Minister on NSC staff bungalows and lands which have gone into private hands, and therefore appealed to him (Hon. Pelpuo) as a matter of necessity help reclaim those assets to the Council.
The workers were elated to have had the opportunity to interact with the Wa Central MP and called for more of such interactions.
