Yakubu played for the Black Stars Ghanaian midfielder Abubakari Yakubu has been told he can leave Dutch top flight side Vitesse Arnhem when the transfer window opens in January.
The Eredivisie outfit are looking to sell the former Black Star and his two team-mates Mads Junker and Haim Megrelishvili in a bid to reduce their wage bill.
"It's absolutely not the case that we want to end their contracts. But their salaries are such that it is a pure waste when they don't play," technical director Mark van Hintum told Omroep Gelderland.
"We will try to let them go in the transfer window. We will co-operate where we can. Mads has said that he is open to a transfer, if his situation doesn't change."
Yakubu, 26, has been under contract in Arnhem since joining from Ajax in the summer of 2004.
Junker, 27, and 26-year-old Megrelishvili joined Vitesse in January 2006 and June 2007 respectively.
