Five regions of the southern sector would vie for honours at the celebration of this year's Sports Festival which opens at the Sekondi Sports stadium at Essipong from Tuesday 4th November to 7th November 2008.
The Western, Central, Volta, Eastern and Greater Accra Regions would be competing in five sporting disciplines of basketball, handball, table tennis, volleyball and athletics which is been organized by the National Sports Council.
Mr. Patrick Akowuah, Western Regional Sports Development Officer told GNA Sports at Essipong on Thursday that the total contingent of 300 sports men and women and 45 officials would be accommodated at the stadium.
He said the Western and Greater Accra Regions who have registered 70-member strong teams each would compete in all the events while Eastern Region has the least number of 30 sports men and women.
The Central and Volta regions would be represented by a 60-member squad each.
Mr. Akowuah said the host regional team, Western have trained adequately and are determined to lift most of the trophies at stake to make the region proud.
