The First National Open Squash Championship comes off at the Tesano Sports Centre in Accra from Saturday, August 30 to Sunday, August 31.
Mrs Priscilla Owusu-Ansah, Secretary of the Ghana Squash Association who announced this in Accra to GNA Sports on Wednesday, said seven clubs are expected to participate in the competition which would be sponsored by Facol Roads Limited.
She said the participating clubs include Tesano, Polo, Enterprise, Burma Camp, COCOBOD, Tema and Gold House.
Mrs Owusu-Ansah said the aim of the event was to revive the sport which was gradually dying because of non activity and competitions.
She expressed the hope that corporate bodies and institutions would respond positively to the appeal made by the Association for funds towards the development of the sport in the country.
The winner of the competition will take home 100 Ghana cedis, second-placed team gets 500 Ghana cedis, while the third-placed team would be given 25 Ghana cedis.
Mrs Owusu-Ansah urged the sporting public to patronize the event since it has very entertaining spectacles especially for the youth.
