Accra, May 6, GNA - The Professional League Board, (PLB) organizers of the Onetouch Premier League on Sunday presented the ultimate trophy to Accra Hearts of Oak for emerging champions of the competition. Hearts won the league with 58 points with five clear points ahead of their closest rivals Obuasi Ashgold.
The presentation of the trophy took place during the second half of a ceremonial match between Hearts and Liberty Professionals at the Dansoman Carl Reindorf Park in Accra. Amidst fun fare, drumming and dancing, Welbeck Abra Appiah, Chairman of the PLB and Kwesi Nyatakyi, President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) presented the trophy to skipper Hassan Mohamed and Tommy Okine, Chief Executive Officer of Hearts and now the Gbese Mantse - Nii Ayi Bonte II.
Each player was presented a bouquet and a medal, which will be presented later to the players at a special ceremony according to information gathered by the GNA Sports.
It was also an occasion, which saw the presence of almost all the stakeholders in Ghana soccer.
Among them are members of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), Division One League Board and the Referees' Association of Ghana (RAG).
In the ceremonial match, which ended in a deadlock, both teams struggled to gain their feet in the opening minutes, but the Phobians who fielded two guest players - Lawrence Adjah Tetteh and former Asante Kotoko and Okwawu United striker Shamo Abbey posed much danger anytime they moved upfront.
Just on the stroke of the first half, young striker Edward Adjaglo nearly capped his home debut with a goal but his volley went wide with Liberty's goalie, Nana Bonsu completely beaten.
Both teams introduced fresh limbs in the second half but it was the league champions who came closest with efforts from substitute Eric Nyarko and Adjaglo missing targets by inches. 06 May 07
