Football News CAS dismiss George Afriyie's appeal against GFA
MON, 06 MAY 2024 LISTEN

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has upheld the decision of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to disqualify George Afriyie from the 2023 Presidential Elections, dismissing his appeal.

This solidifies Kurt Okraku's position as GFA President for a second term, uncontested since the previous year.

Afriyie's bid for the GFA Presidency hit a snag when he failed to meet the required number of GFA member endorsements for his candidacy.

Despite his efforts to challenge the disqualification through legal channels, including an appeal to CAS, the ruling delivered on May 6th confirms his disqualification stands.

The former GFA Vice President has also been instructed to cover legal costs amounting to 1000 Swiss Francs (approximately 15,266 Ghana Cedis).

In the previous elections held in Tamale on October 5th, Kurt Okraku secured his position with an overwhelming majority, receiving 117 out of 120 votes.

Only two delegates dissented, while one abstained from voting, reaffirming Okraku's leadership atop Ghana's football governing body.
