Captain of the Black Princesses, Afi Amenyaku, has expressed after leading her team to clinch the gold medal at the African Games, labelling it as a 'dream come true' moment.

Amenyaku, the goalkeeper, played a pivotal role in all five matches of Ghana's journey to victory at the 2023 African Games, culminating in a triumphant win over Nigeria in the final held at the Cape Coast Stadium.

Despite a setback with a conceded goal in the 23rd minute, Amenyaku and her team exhibited remarkable resilience.

They orchestrated a remarkable comeback, with Tracey Twum and Abdulai Mukarama finding the net in the second half and extra time respectively, ultimately securing Ghana's victory and their fourth medal in the last four editions of the Games.

Speaking after the game, Amenyaku expressed her elation, stating, "It's a dream come true for me as the captain; leading the team to gold because this is the first time captaining the team in a tournament. I am very happy to be able to win gold."

Amenyaku, who was also part of the Ghanaian squad that triumphed over Nigeria in the inaugural WAFU B U-20 Girls' Cup in Kumasi last year, showcased her prowess in goal by making two crucial saves during the penalty shootout in the final.

With the African Games victory behind them, the Black Princesses now set their sights on the upcoming FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup.
