African Games: We are under pressure - Black Princesses coach Yusif Basigi ahead of Nigeria clash

Black Princesses coach, Yusif Basigi, has asserted that his team is approaching their upcoming final match against Nigeria in the Women’s football competition at the 2023 African Games without feeling pressured.

Scheduled to take place later today at the Cape Coast Stadium, Ghana's U-20 female squad will confront their Nigerian rivals at 20:00 GMT.

The Princesses secured their spot in the final following a convincing 3-1 victory over Senegal.

Basigi, addressing the media ahead of the pivotal encounter, acknowledged the formidable nature of their opponents but underscored his team's preparedness to confront them without succumbing to pressure.

"We are not feeling pressured heading into this match. Regardless of their track record, we are fully committed to giving our best in the final. It's bound to be a challenging game, but with the support of our fans at the stadium, we are confident of emerging victorious," stated Basigi.

This highly anticipated clash is a rematch of the WAFU B U-20 Girls Cup held in Kumasi last year, where Ghana emerged victorious over Nigeria on penalties.

Expressing confidence in his team's ability to sustain their momentum, Basigi anticipates a repeat of their previous success on Thursday evening at the Cape Coast stadium.

"Nigeria has displayed an impressive goal-scoring record, but outcomes can vary depending on the opponent. We've experienced this in the WAFU B U-20 Girls Cup, and the final will be the ultimate decider," added Basigi.

Heading into the final, Ghana boasts an impressive record of three wins and one draw in the tournament, while Nigeria has equally impressed by securing victories in all their matches.
