Match Report: Asante Kotoko score late to put Lions to bed in Accra

Asante Kotoko had to dig deep on Monday afternoon to defeat Accra Lions by a lone goal to secure the first win of the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season.

Before today’s game played at the Accra Sports Stadium, the Porcupine Warriors had played three games without a win.

In the opening weekend of the new Ghana Premier League season, Asante Kotoko drew goalless with newcomers Heart of Lions.

Subsequently, the Reds lost 2-1 to Bibiani Gold Stars before drawing 1-1 with Karela United in the last time out.

Today, Asante Kotoko locked horns with Accra Lions in no mood to drop more points.

As a result, the Porcupine Warriors put on a resilient display and fought throughout the 90 minutes.

In the close contest that ensued between the two teams in the Round 4 game, a late goal from striker Kalo Ouattara secured a narrow 1-0 win for Asante Kotoko at full-time.

Thanks to the victory, Asante Kotoko have climbed out of the relegation zone and are now 9^th on the league table.

Up next for the Reds, the team will come up against Aduana Stars in Round 5.
