Medeama’s attempt to defend the Ghana Premier League title in the 2023/24 season suffered an early setback on Wednesday afternoon.

The Yellow and Mauve outfit today played their first match of the new league campaign in a clash against Accra Lions.

At the end of a tough encounter, Medeama Sporting Club dropped two points in a game that ended 2-2.

Although this is an early setback, the Tarkwa-based club would have 33 more games to make amends.

In the game today, Accra Lions proved to be a tough opponent as the visitors scored first through Samuel Gyimah in the 18th minute to hold the lead at halftime.

After recess, goals from Daniel Lomotey and Jonathan Sowah for Medeama SC sandwiched a second equaliser from Accra Lions netted by Ali Mohammed.

Despite a strong finish to the game by both teams, neither side could get a winning goal and had to settle for a 2-2 draw.

On matchday two, Medeama SC will face off with Aduana Stars while Accra Lions host Legon Cities Football Club.
