Kumasi, Aug.31, GNA - Mr Kwame Appiah Boateng, CPP Parliamentary Candidate in the 2004 elections for Nhyiaeso Constituency in Kumasi, has suggested the establishment of a monument to immortalise Ghanaian heroes and heroines in the arts and sports.
He said "finger prints of living Ghanaian musicians, artists sportsmen, women and the personal items of deceased heroes and heroines in the arts and sports could be displayed at the monument as a sign of honour and recognition for their achievements."
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi, Mr Boateng said such a monument would not only inspire creativity among Ghanaians especially the youth, but would also serve as a tourist attraction and generate revenue for the country.
He advised Ghanaians to show appreciation and recognise ideas and talents of individuals and honour them.
Mr Boateng reiterated the call by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu 11, at this year's Millennium Excellence Awards, that "Ghanaians should be bold and honest to recognise good ideas, no matter which sector of society they come from".
He said such recognition would inspire people to work harder to build their talents and contribute meaningfully to the development of the nation.
Mr Boateng said a project to honour heroes and heroines in the country had been initiated and appealed to individuals and organisations for assistance.
