Providers of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) across the country are peeved over the non-payment of their claims for some months now, so they have threatened to embark on industrial action, starting from Monday, October 10.

These NHIS providers claimed that they have not been paid from February this year to date, and this unfortunate situation had impoverished them and it is also threatening the existence of their businesses.

According to the providers, all their strenuous efforts and pressure to ensure that the leadership of the NHIA did the right thing by paying them the amount which is due them has been ignored so far.

They stated that they have realised that the leadership of the NHIA is not committed to paying the moneys due them, so they are now left with no other option than to proceed on a strike action to drum home their grievances.

A provider of the NHIS in the Brong Ahafo Region who demanded anonymity in order to avert a possible victimisation told DAILY GUIDE that all providers of the NHIS across the country are currently suffering.

He said the amount that the NHIA owed the providers is very huge as it spanned from February to date, adding that the providers are now in deep waters as they are being chased by their bankers on a daily basis.

“We work with banking institutions and the NHIA's refusal to settle our claims had resulted in the banks chasing us for their monies. In fact, we are in big trouble,” the poor provider narrated.

According to the provider who looked perplexed as he narrated his ordeal to the paper on Wednesday, everything points to the fact that the NHIA leadership is not willing to settle the huge debt anytime soon.

He claimed that credible information reaching the providers indicated that the NHIA has money to settle at least the February debt, but surprisingly the present NHIA leadership is dragging their feet in paying the money.

The provider stated that if the NHIA refuses to settle the debt by the close of this weekend, providers would embark on a nationwide strike on Monday to let the whole world see how the NHIA leadership is maltreating them.
