The Ghana Aids commission as part of its duties has launched the fourth successive National HIV/AIDS Strategic plan & Treat all Policy which will last from 2016- 2020 to help in their work to minimise the transmission of the dreaded disease and also in work towards getting an HIV/AIDS free community.

HIV/AIDS has become a problem in our country and this dreaded disease is something most people do not want to talk about or even be associated with it. In line with this the HIV/AIDS Commission has been working to help solve this menace as people with the virus are not less human because when treated they can live and live longer.

In doing this the AIDS Commission together with other stakeholders have brought out strategic plans in the previous years that guides them and on how to tackle the the gowth the disease and its associated problems which has become a major threat for all to fight.

In 2001-2005, the first policy was launched to help end the AIDS pandemic, from 2006-2010 the second National strategic plan was launched to continue solving issues facing people living with HIV/AIDS.

Again from 2011-2015 another National HIV/AIDS Strategic Plan was launched to continue with the vision. This year the fourth National HIV/AIDS Strategic Plan has been launched with the aim of getting an HIV/AIDS community free in Ghana by 2030.

The Director- General of the Ghana AIDS Commission, Madam Angela El- Adas has said that this National Strategic plan NSP (2016-2020) will help them in their work geared towards their targets set in 2020 and 2030.

In giving out little details on the NSP, Dr. Pat Yuri a lead consultant said that there are going to be targets on the youth because from the ages of 14 to 19 are seen as those who are at a high risk of getting the disease, female sex workers,prison,homosexuals and those who inject drugs. In a bid to get the desired results, there is the target to reduce mother to child transmission, stigmatization and this is what the Ghana AIDs Commission and all involved hope for.

Solidarity messages from NAP, GHANET, PEPFAR, CCM of GF and UNAIDS expressed their joy about this National Strategic Plan and called on all to quicken their act so that it will not just be a policy that will be placed on the shelves.

ATV in an interview with the HIV/AIDS Ambassador, Rev. Azumah, he thanked the authorities for finally bringing out this NSP as he believes will serve as a guideline for their duties in the years ahead.

It was all joy as the Health Minister, Hon. Alex Segbefia launched the National HIV/AIDS Strategic Plan (2016-2020) which will serve as a blueprint for the national response to HIV for the next 5 years.

The Honorable Minister for Health, Hon Alex Segbefia who coupled as the chairperson and the keynote speaker lauded this initiative and promised his outfits support to make this plan work.

It is the wish of Ghana AIDS Commission and all stakeholders involved to get an HIV/AIDS transmission and have an hiv and aids free community by 2030.
