Accra, Aug. 23, GNA - Local Council of Churches (LCC), Atomic Hills Estate, Ashongman has organised a peace game to unify the people in the target area and it's environ before, during and after the December 7 elections.

The programme is an annual event, which seeks to foster unity and oneness among the different churches in the community.

It is also aimed at using games and sports as a tool of evangelism to bring the youth in the Community who do not know Jesus Christ to know Him and live decent lives.

This year's games were preceded by a talk on the: 'Role of the Church During this year's election.'

Mr Patrick Kwaku Darko, Ga East District Civic Education Officer, National Commission on Civic Education, said the youth is the backbone of the country and expressed the need for them to be careful the way some politicians use them to destroy properties during election.

He alleged that some politicians at time give money to the youth to cause havoc during general election and urged them to desist from such acts.

He advised them to use the game as a means to create peaceful environment that should be extended during the election period.

'During election day, no one should be seen in party T-shirts or party colours or drink alcohol during the elections,' he advised.

Mr Darko announced that the Voters Register was opened from August 19 to August 26 to enable those who turned 18 years but could not register to do so.

Those who lost their voters identification card, he said, should go to the District Offices or the Headquarters of the Electoral Commission with their identification or two Ghanaians to guarantee for them.

The Local Council of Churches is made up of 18 Churches in the Ashongman Estate Community with more than 10,000 people.

The event comprises Football, Volleyball, Tug of Peace, Ludo, Oware, Ampe for Adults, Sack Race, Spoon and Lime Race, Musical Chairs for the Children.

Mr Solomon Boafo, Secretary of the LCC said this year eight Churches out the 10 Churches participated in the fun games, including the Church of Pentecost, Presbyterian Church of Ghana, New Life Global Outreach, Shammah Assemblies of God, Ebenezer Baptist Church, Evangelical Presbyterian Church and the Atomic Hills United Church.

He said this year's event has been tied to the numerous calls for peace in this years' electioneering before, during and after the 2016 election hence the theme: 'Promoting Unity and Peace Through Sports and Games.'

At the close of the games Presbyterian Church of Ghana won the football and Tug of peace categories while Atomic Hills United Church, won the Volleyball competition. They were presented with Silver cups.

Ebenezer Baptist Church, won the male Ludo Competition, Evangelical Presbyterian Church won the sack race, Methodist Church won Oware, while Presbyterian Church of Ghana won musical chairs and were all presented with certificates for first position.
