The Humanists Association of Ghana (HAG) has noted a video circulating on social media which shows the self-proclaimed Bishop, Daniel Obinim, publicly assaulting two adults with a belt for allegedly having a consensual relationship.
We condemn in no uncertain terms the inhumane, degrading and humiliating treatment meted out to the two adults in the video.
As a group committed to the promotion of reason and human rights, HAG sees this ridiculous episode as a violation that should be condemned by all well-meaning Ghanaians.
We call on law enforcement to investigate the video and to deal with any culpable party according to the law.
We also invite our fellow Ghanaians to be circumspect and not fall prey to self-proclaimed men and women of God who grant themselves the authority to enforce punishments and receive gifts in cash or kind.
Let us embrace science and reason to contribute to the development of our nation.
