Fijai (W/R), July 28, GNA - Dr Emmanuel Tenkorang, Western Regional Director of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), has said money was not everything and it was about time the society redirects its focus on hard work and sacrifices.

'There is the need to change our focus as Ghanaians, money is not everything, you may have it and may not be in a position to even enjoy it', he said.

Dr Tenkorang said this during a send-off party and award ceremony for four retired staff of the Health Accounting Staff Association at Fijai in the Western Region.

The four former staff of the GHS were celebrated in recognition for the hard work and commitment to duty when they were in active service.

The Regional Director was saddened that dedication, commitment and passion to duty was being gradually replaced with selfishness and strong consciousness for wealth acquisition.

He said, 'Go to some parts of the country, people have built mansions yet they cannot sleep inside, it is God who will sustain you and not your craze for wealth'.

Dr Tenkorang urged professionals in the health service to focus on helping humanity.

Mr Yusif Gyamson, Presiding Member of the Sekondi/Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly, who represented the Chief Executive, urged the health workers to be honest in the job they did adding that your actions or inactions could affect your life'.

Mr John Davis, Regional President of the Health Accounting Staff Association, urged the current crop of professionals to plan for their retirement adding, 'Unplanned pension is said to be very unbearable'.

The four retired staff were presented with a citation, a gift and undisclosed amount.
