Tension brews at St Anthony Hospital at Dzodze

There is brewing tension at the St. Anthony’s Hospital at Dzodze in the Ketu North District of the Volta Region, Joy News has gathered.

This follows concerns raised against the Administrator of the Hospital, Christian Akoto-Brown by the staff.

Some staff members who spoke to Joy News’ Ivy Setordjie accused the administrator of lording himself over both patients and staff for more than 15 years. They also made other allegations.

They claimed he has placed his personal telephone number and e-mail address on the Hospital’s official letterhead to the detriment of the facility.

Also, he is said to be operating a personal foreign bank account in which he redirects all donor funds meant for the hospital and diocese into.

The staff, disclosed that because Mr Brown’s also doubles as the Hospital's Administrator and the Director in-charge of the five health facilities in the Keta-Akatsi Catholic Diocese, it puts him in a conflicting situation.

“I was summarily dismissed without going through the disciplinary procedures. I was dismissed on grounds of fraud, stealing, and favoritism,” one member of staff, Lord Light Ametsikor said, adding, this infuriated him to seek redress in the court of law.

Sensing the danger ahead, Mr Brown appealed for out of court settlement.

Lord Ametsikor says he brought the matter for a roundtable discussion only to be further annoyed by the administrator.

According to him, government was supposed to give him some money, but Mr Brown refused to release the money and this resulted in another court action.

Lord Ametsikor says the challenges they are facing in the hands of the Mr Bown if not addressed will hamper the smooth operation of the Hospital.

The only option was for Mr Brown to step down for an investigation to be conducted into the issues.

Chaplain of the Hospital, Reverend Father Harry Justin Barawusu also confirmed the issues but hinted he would not comment since the issues are being dealt with at the Diocesan level.

“There are issues, but unfortunately, I cannot comment on them at the moment because I have spoken to the Bishop in charge now and he has taken over the issues,” he said.
