Joyce Banda joined others to mark the day at the Asomdwe Park

President John Mahama has joined several high profile personalities to extol the virtues of late president John Evans Atta Mills.

Prof. Atta Mills was the first Ghanaian president to have died in office on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at the 37 Military Hospital.

As part of events to mark the day, several high profile dignitaries laid wreaths at the Asomdwe Park on Sunday, where Mills' tomb is located. Present at the event were former president of Malawi, Joyce Banda and her family and other NDC executives.

Mahama will on Monday July 25, 2016, inaugurate “The John Evans Atta Mills Memorial Library” at the Chapel Square, Cape Coast at 9:00am, in memory of the late president.

Born on July 24, 1944, at Tarkwa, in the Western Region of Ghana, late President Mills served as President of Ghana from 2009 to 2012.

The commemoration is under the auspices of University of Cape Coast, the John Evans Atta Mills Centre for Law and Governance, GIMPA and the Planning Committee under the auspices of the Government of Ghana.

There will also be the 4th John Evans Atta Mills Commemorative Lecture themed “Atta Mills the Servant Leader” will be delivered by Joyce Banda at the UCC Main Auditorium.

Late President Evans Atta Mill was described as “a peacemaker who never made a disparaging comments in public” despite intense criticisms and vilification from his political supporters and opponents alike.
