General News Trainee Nurse Association denies rejecting GH?150 allowance
JUL 22, 2016 LISTEN

The Ghana Nurse Midwife Trainees’ Association (GNMTA) has denied reports that it is urging student nurses and midwives to reject the GH₵150 monthly allowance promised by the Mahama-led-government.

A statement signed by the President of GNMTA, Akazee Godwin Asabire described the report as untrue and has urged Ghanaians to be wary of such claims as the nation marches into the 2016 election.

“GNMTA, therefore, wants to distance itself from such a political statement and admonish all Trainee Nurses and Midwives to stay calm and Resolute as GNMTA negotiates with the Ministry and Relevant stakeholders to get our issues resolved,” he said.

Social media especially Facebook on Friday was flooded with news of Trainee Nurses and Midwives rejecting an offer of GH₵150 given by the government for their monthly allowance.

The message comes barely 24 hours after the Health Ministry announced on Thursday that it plans to pay at least over 34,000 trainee nurses and midwives in the country Gh₵150 a month after months of delayed payments.
