Mantrac Ghana in keeping its market leadership position in the supply of mining equipment organized a days’ forum in Takoradi for selected small and medium scale mining customers. The invitational event is part of Mantrac Ghana’s plan of helping these customers to access relevant CAT equipment; reduce their operational cost and maximize their profits.

This is the third in the series of seminars for small and medium scale miners organized by Mantracand the second outside Accra. The one day event which was oversubscribed had in attendance selected mining firms within the Western territory of the country. It created a platform for the local mining firms to interact with the technical experts from Mantracand Caterpillar and also get educated on the latest Caterpillar mining applications to enhance the efficiency of small and medium scale mining operations.

In a welcome address read on behalf of the Managing Director, Mr. Edem Eworyi, the Machine Sales Manager of Mantrac said, the company is still committed to supporting the businesses of small and medium scale miners due to the huge contribution they make to Ghana’s economic development.

He noted that Ghana has over 25 large scale mining firms and over 300 registered small and medium scale mining firms who are responsible for about 35% of the total gold production in Ghana. There is therefore the need to extend customized support to this category. That is why Mantrac embarked on this exclusive forum to help them access best practices in equipment selection, maintenance, financing and customized after sales support in addition to environmentally friendly operations.

In an interview with the media, Mr.Eworyi stressed that the company recognizes the importance of small and medium scale mining to the economy of Ghana thus the need to support their efforts so that they can contribute their quota effectively to the development of the country.

He said this is the third time Mantrac has organized such seminar and feedback from customers has been positive. He also urged the miners to take advantage of the customized financial solutions provided by CAT finance to expand their machine fleet and increase production.

Steven Faucher, System Application Specialist, Africa/Middle East, Caterpillar General Construction and Infrastructure (GCI), took participants through an interactive session on small/medium scale mining Fleet Selection for Surface Gold Mining using local examples with practical demonstration videos to the admiration of the delegates.

He also advised small & medium scale miners to know what they really want when purchasing a machine, especially the capacity of the bucket –“ you can make more money in using the right Caterpillar machine to work, try as much as possible to maintain the machines you work with to save time and cost”.

He also encouraged them to be abreast with the new techniques in the system to make work easy.
