Mother wins Nido scholarship

Accra, July 11, GNA - Madam Bernice Addo, a resident of Osu in Accra has won a GH₵500.00 Nido nutrition scholarship package.

The scholarship forms part of the Nido Healthy Nutrition Education Outreach promotion, which aims at educating parents on the need to provide good nutritional food for their children.

The scholarship, in addition to products of Nestle Nido and stationery would benefit her son; William Addo of Kaajanor Primary School.

Madam Addo expressed was delight to have won the ultimate prize.

She said, she came to the programme to learn about good nutrition but had won an award as well, and called on all parents to give the needed attention to their children's diet.

Ms Priscilla Copson, Nutritionist at the Neptune Medical Centre, urged parents to give their children food that contains iron, calcium and zinc to help them grow well

Nestle Ghana, as part of its commitment to Nutrition, Health and Wellness organised the programme to provide parents with education on nutrition for the optimal growth of their children.

The programme, which is being run in selected schools nationwide in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service, has been able to reach 4,138 parents in the Greater Accra, Northern Western and Ashanti Regions in 2015 and in 2016 the educational campaign has already reached more than 6,200 parents in five regions.

A contest is organised during each event and an ultimate scholarship package of GH₵ 500.00 is given to the children of the winner.

A speech read on behalf of the Managing Director of Nestlé Mrs Freda Y. Duplan said Nestle has made a global commitment to help reduce the risk of under nutrition through micronutrient fortification and plans to reach 200 billion people annually with micronutrient-fortified foods and beverages worldwide by 2016.
