Health Wilmar Africa organises health and safety walk

As part of activities to keep workers in shape, fit and strong to enhance productivity, Wilmar Africa, Ghana Specialty has organised a health and safety walk to ensure their workers are fit to undertake their core duties at their workplace.

The walk which started at the Tema Community one saw about a hundred workers participate. They went through some principal streets of Tema and ended at the factory premises of Wilmar at the main harbour.

Speaking to Citi News, the Occupational Health and safety manager for Willmar Africa, Moses Adade noted that the walk is a quarterly event of the company which seek to ensure their workers are strengthened to undertake their day to day affair at the workplace.

“This is a quarterly event and we do this to ensure our workers get the strength to carry out their day to day affairs at the workplace because it is good to exercise the body and it helps”

He said it is important occupational health and safety standards are taken seriously by all organisational settings in the country since it is the surest way to enhance productivity.

Mr Adade who is also a health and safety specialist advocated for a legislative instrument to ensure strict compliance to health and safety standards in the country.

The Assistant Human Resource Manager of the company, James Boakye noted the company upholds its human resource hence the move to institute a quarterly health and safety walk.

“As a company, we uphold our human resource base and so we have made it a top priority to ensure activities are scheduled to make then fit and healthy to carry out their day to day affairs to enhance productivity”

The Operatonal Health and Saftey Manager for Wilmar Ghana, Bawa Godfred also noted that Wilmar as an international company upholds safety and called on other companies within the country to do same to ensure high yield in productivity.

“It is unfortunate that on daily bases people are involved in accidents that could be avoided so there is the need for safety to be taken seriously by all and sundry”

He said people must also be taken theough behavioural safety approach to ensure saftey standards are followed to the latter at both the work place and at home.

After the walk, the workers were given some basic health and safety tips and also some aerobics.

Wilmer Africa is a company that is into oil production and can be found in over 40 countries.
