Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Nathan Kofi Boakye, has been promoted to the rank of Commissioner of Police by President John Dramani Mahama.

His promotion took effect from June 1 2016, according to a statement from the Ghana Police Service.

The statement also conveyed the Inspector General of Police (IGP), John Kudalor's, congratulations to COP Boakye.

COP Boakye took over from DCOP Augustine Gyening in 2014, as the Ashanti Regional Police boss.

His last promotion was in 2012, when he was promoted from the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) to Deputy Commissioner of Police.

Also a former Director of Operations of the Ghana Police Service, DCOP Boakye was called to the Bar as a lawyer in 2008, where he was adjudged the best law student of his graduating class at the Ghana Law School.

The newly promoted Commissioner of Police is respected in law enforcement circles, and has received many commendations notably from the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for his work in the region.
