Bible Verses To Calm Our Anxious Soul

Do not be anxious about anything , but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”  Philippians 4:6-7

Introduction
A day never passes without hearing some bad news. Some of them are so scary that you can't help feeling that you were the victim or close to the victim. There are so much bad things going on around us today including wars, conflicts, persecution, violence, crime, natural disasters, terrorism, economic uncertainty, unemployment, divisions, disease, and death.   We even fear for our children's future, we fear for our families, we fear for our financial future, we fear for our safety.  The list seems endless.

What is happening indeed is not what God wants for His children. Our God is a God of peace and so these things are contrary to the purpose for which He created us in His image and established us on earth. We are engulfed in so much fear and anxiety probably because we rely on our own strength, wisdom and strategy. Let us remember that fear and anxiety are two of the enemy's most popular weapons used against us.

We need to take action. This is not easy but it can be done. We must make choices. We can choose to go along with the temperature of our environment letting our minds and emotions be led by the twists and turns of the ever-changing scenarios of life, or we can set our hearts and minds on something higher and stable for our soul.

I'm choosing the latter, what about you? So that we can calm our heart and mind as we need to choose right.

How then can we equip ourselves to take care of our hearts, minds, and soul before things get out of control?Reading scriptures and meditating on the truth of the Word of Godis the best remedy.

USEFUL VERSES FROM THE BIBLE
Here are some scriptures that can help calm our soulsand they should be the air we breathe every day.

  1. PROVERBS 20:24:A person's steps are directed by the Lord. How then can anyone understand their own way?” In a natural and literal sense, the instruments of going are of the Lord; the act of motion from place to place is not without the concourse of His providence; as in him we live, and move, and have our being, so “in and by him we move”; he preserves our going out and coming in; and as the preservation, so the success and prosperity of journeying are owing to His providence, and the whole is under his care and direction. As Christians, because the Holy Spirit indwells us, He helps us when we are weak and enables us to recover from weaknesses.

  1. 2 CORINTHIANS 4:16-18:“Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. The grace of faith is an effectual remedy against fainting in times of trouble. Troubles in this world can make or break us but if we can fix our eyes on the eternity that is set before us after we leave this broken world, we can live a renewed and hopeful life. We should get excited about Heaven.

 

  1. PHILIPPIANS 2:14-16:Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life. And then I will be able to boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor in vain”.Grumbling about our situation is very easy. Let us rather do the opposite by giving thanks to God for what He brings our way and for the grace He gives us to endure.

 

  1. PHILIPPIANS 4:4-7:“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. We may have hardships that will lead us to worry, but worrying does not help in any way. Rather we should carry all our worries to God in prayer knowing that His peace will guard our hearts and minds and enable us to overcome the challenges we face.

 

  1. PHILIPPIANS 4:8-9:“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.” What we think about affects our bodies and actions. Thinking of what is true, good, right, pure, lovely, and praiseworthy sets up our minds up for healthy positive reactions. This affects our demeanor, personality, as well as relationships with others.

 

  1. COLOSSIANS 3:16-17:“Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”When we read andshare the word of God, it becomesdifficult for negativity to slide into our hearts. Doing everything in the name of Jesus is therefore an excellent way to work on living alongside others in love.

 

  1. COLOSSIANS 4:5-6:“Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.” The way we interact with each other, and with fellow Christians and unbelievers is very important. We must ask the Holy Spirit to assist us to control our tongues so that we will be gracious in our words and opinions.

 

  1. ISAIAH 41:10:So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Sometimes, we can read certain verses from Scripture a hundred times and fail to take them to heart, the way the Lord wants us to. Other times, we can linger on a verse or two, and let them minister life, healing, and comfort to us. The above scripture is so rich with the promises of God, that it warrants special attention from us.
  2. 2 TIMOTHY 1:7:“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” Notice that God does not take credit for the spirit of fear. “Spirit of fear” speaks of fearfulness and timidity.  It is cowardice in the face of hostility. One characteristic of the Holy Spirit is power. This power is mighty and strong and we must appropriate this power when we are driven by fear.
  3. JOHN 14:27:“Peace is what I leave with you; it is my own peace that I give you. I do not give it as the world does. Do not be worried and upset; do not be afraid.”The peace that God gives isa Peace in the mind, Peace of conscience andPeace of heart, Peace in all the relationships in which we stands.

Let me challenge you today to take these precious promises to heart. Make them your own by claiming them in faith, and open the way for our loving and mighty God to reveal Himself to you like never before! If we are able to study and memories these scriptures, we are guaranteed of our peace of mind with the assurance that God is always with us.
