Experienced banker, Ernest Mawuli Agbesi, will soon be announced as the Managing Director of the largest state-owned bank, GCB Bank Ltd, Citi Business News has gathered.

Mr. Agbesi was appointed to the position after the Board of GCB went through a process of interview with four additional aspirants.

He will take over from Mr. Simon Dornoo, who left the bank in March this year.

Currently,Mr. Agbesi is the MD of the state-owned National Investment Bank (NIB).

After the announcement, he is expected to bring his experience, and business insight to bear on GCB Bank.

Work & Educational Profile
Mr. Agbesi has a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA), a Post Graduate Diploma and a Diploma in Accounting.

He has ample experience in banking and started his banking career in 1985 with the then Ghana Co-operative Bank Limited.

He joined  the International Commercial Bank in 2000 where he became a Divisional Head in 2006 in charge of Sales and Business Development, Estates and General Services and Retail Banking.

Mr Agbesi joined uniBank (Ghana) Limited in January 2008 where he was Head of Sales and Business Development and later Head of Banking Operations.

He supervised the organic growth of the Bank until his appointment as the Managing Director of the National Investment Bank Limited in March 2014.

Currently he is the Board Chairman at Nestle (Ghana) Limited as well as Chairman of the Board of Directors at First Ghana Savings and Loans Company Limited.
