Mrs Amissah-Arthur urges Ghanaians to read books

Accra, June 25, GNA - Mrs Matilda Amissah-Arthur, Second Lady, has called on Ghanaians to cultivate the habit of reading to enable them to broaden their skills and knowledge.

She said reading is the act of identifying various combination of words and linking them together in usually comprehensive manner.

Mrs Amissah-Arthur made the call at the launch of three books authored by Mr Kofi Otutu Adu Larbi, Board Chairman of Beige Capital, in Accra

The books are Stories to Warm Your Hear, Pearls of Wisdom and Nuggets for Victorious Living.

Mrs Amissah-Arthur said it has come to be accepted as a basic tool for communication, the next step after oral communication, has been recorded and held in store to be used by others.

She said the subject of reading in our environment is closely associated with the work of Christian Missionaries in what became the Gold Coast.

The Second Lady said Ghanaians have nevertheless grasped the opportunities opened to them through the medium of reading literacy and modern education.

'We have as a people come to regard modern education as a route to bettering our lives and enhancing our social mobility.

Mrs Amissah-Arthur said the ability of people to read is a measure of their level of the basic literacy and foreign investors could use this as index of the investment potential of a country.

She commended Mr Adu Larbi for coming out with such an inspirational books and called for support from all quarters to enable him write more books.

Professor Akua Kuenyehia, a Lawyer, who chaired the function said reading is a key component in acquiring skills and urged students and up and coming young people to develop keen interest in reading.

Mr Adu Larbi urged parents to encourage their wards to read and provide them with the requisite platforms to expand their horizon by exhibiting their talents.

The first copy of the book was bought for GH₵ 20.000.00.
