Oda Nkwanta (E/R), June 15, GNA - A rainstorm has rendered more than 50 people homeless at Oda Nkwanta in the Birim Central Municipality of the Eastern Region.
The storm injured four persons who were rushed to the Akim Oda Government Hospital, ripped up the roofing sheets of 20 buildings and destroyed farms estimated at millions of Ghana cedis.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, Mr Isaac Pious Kodua, a Unit Committee Member of Oda Nkwanta, a rice growing community, said the rains started at about 1300 hours, on Friday, June 10, and lasted several hours.
Mr Dennis Obeng Agyei, the Assemblyman for the area, has, consequently, appealed to Non-Governmental Organisations and philanthropists to go to the aid of the affected persons, who were being accommodated at the chief's palace.
He pleaded to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) of the Birim Central Municipal Assembly to assist the victims receive the requisite support.
