The 2016 edition of the Multi TV Habitat Fair has been launched in Accra, under the theme “affordable housing for all”.

MultiTV Habitat Fair 2016, would be preceded by two mini fairs at the Achimota Retail Centre and the West Hills Mall in June and July Respectively.

Mr. Stephen Essoun, the project Coordinator of the MultiTV Habitat, indicated that, “in our bid to take the fair closer to lots of people, the 2016 edition will be in three phases. There will be two mini fairs prior to the main fair which will be held in August.

The first mini-fair is scheduled for the 24th and 25th of June at Achimota Retail Centre between 8am to 7pm daily, whiles the second mini fair comes off on the 29 and 30 of July at West Hills Mall-Weija. He added that the main fair is slated for August 12th-14that Accra International Conference Centre”.

There will be lots of discount sales and free household products giveaways from Autocentrum International and other real estate developers during the various fairs, Mr. Stephen Essoun had said during the media launch.

In an exclusive interview with the Managing Director of MultiTV, Mr.Santokh Singh indicated that “nothing is more important for any civilized country than education, housing and hospitals. And as a result, the 1.7 million housing deficit in Ghana, is not simply a revelation of a serious housing crisis, but also a deficit of peace, a deficit of comfort and a crisis of human dignity.

This is why the Multimedia Group Limited in partnership with Sethi Realty and the Ministry of Water Resources Works and Housing cannot get tired of organizing the MultiTV Habitat Fair, a desire which over the years has been matched by the continuous commitment of our headline sponsor Sethi Realty and our co-sponsors JL Properties, Autocentrum International, Kaspong Group, Orca Décor, Heavens Gate Estate and Winsbeaver Co. Ltd”.

The Deputy Minister of Water Resources Works and Housing, Mr. Sampson Ahi said,it is his fervent hope that the MultiTV Habitat Fair 2016 would offer Ghanaians the opportunity to hold discussions, focusing on current issues pertaining to the industry such as, how to reduce the cost of construction, promote an effective maintenance culture and how professionals in the housing industry could come out with innovative designs that would be less dependent of electric power.

He added that a real estate bill that seeks to establish a real estate authority to regulate the sector is currently before Parliament for consideration. Mr. Sampson Ahi said the purpose of the bill is to regulate real brokerage practice, real estate transactions as well as prevent the use of real estate transactions for the purposes of money laundering and other vices.

Mr. Ahi further indicated that, the bill will also provide training and licensing to estate brokers, and will require that estate brokers provided bonds as guarantees to operators in the property market”.

Addressing the issue of the current housing deficit, He said the Ministry was also in talks with local real estate developers and other governmental agencies on how it could collaborate to reduce the housing deficit facing the country.

Mr. Ahi said the affordable housing programme which began in 2005 with the objective of providing accommodation for low to middle-income workers had been revamped.

He said the Ministry was also currently partnering the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), Tema Development Corporation and other developers to complete the projects which had stalled over the past seven years due to lack of funds.

“I can confirm that works for the Borteyman site which is made up of 1,368 units is progressing steadily and is scheduled to be completed in July this year,” he stated.
