Public servant honours June 3 victims with art [Video]

Ghanaians will on Friday, June 3, 2016 mark the first anniversary of the twin disaster that shook the foundations of the country.

In that disaster, over 150 lives were lost during a heavy downpour amidst a fire incident at the Goil fuel station at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra.

Properties running into millions of Cedis were also destroyed in several places across the capital city, Accra.

Meanwhile, in commemoration of the anniversary, a Ghanaian who resigned from his work at the Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly in the Ashanti Region has exhibited an artwork he created from plastics at the Goil filling station.

Meaning of artwork
In the artwork, a crying man carries a burnt lifeless body with several others stacked in the water that covered the area.

Speaking to citifmonline.com, Faisal Dauda, explained that the man carrying the body represents the Fire Service personnel and thronged the site to rescue persons trapped in the fire.

He added that the rest of the plastics scattered on the floor signifies the water that flooded the area filled with several tons of refuse.

I resigned
“I was a worker at the Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly which is in Asawase Constituency in the Ashanti Region. So after I came out with the idea, I decided because it needs much research and time, I can no longer work at the assembly,” he told citifmonline.com.

Faisal Dauda said he has never regretted resigning from his work to enter into arts saying “I have come out with over a thousand ideas from the plastic materials” and could train millions of Ghanaians to make cash from plastics if supported.
