A Civil Society Organisation calling itself Ghana Youth Watch has appeal to the National Media Commission [NMC] to impose stiffer sanctions on any unethical and professional misconduct of journalists that has the natural propensity to mar the peaceful elections ahead of the November 7.

Emmanuel Osei Gyamfi, President, Ghana Youth Watch noted that the unethical and cheap journalism in the country should not be entertained.

According to him, the media must refrain from taking monies before reporting and exposing liars in the society.

He added that the media should not pave the way for insults and the use of abusive language on their various media networks before, during and after the November 7 elections.

Emmanuel Osei Gyamfi indicated that the National Media commission should be seen to be applying sanctions should the need be.

He appeal to the traditional authorities, who are the direct and immediate custodians of our natural resources not to allow our farm lands be sacrificed for environmentally unfriendly activities including galamsey operations.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra, he said, voices of religious leaders in Ghana towards nation building are almost equal to zero despite their great influence on Nationals.

“We today humbly call on religious leaders to encourage their members to work more than gathering for church activities and learn more than rehearsals and practices in the case of students,” he stated.

Emmanuel Gyamfi added that heads of council of churches must freely offer advice, counsel and directions to agencies of government as reasonable as possible since Ghana is seen as a religious country.

He added that one serious reason for our predicaments that we need to address if only we want to get better as a country is the problem of system or institutional dysfunction.

“If our institutions that are supposed to work only seek to serve political interest, it does nothing than to render citizens unpatriotic since they are left with hopelessness and despair,” he emphasised.

He calls on any political party that forms government to create the enabling environment for the youth to get something positive doing with their high energies.

Enabling environment here includes stable power supply, right curriculum for study in our various institutions, empowered private sector, eradication of waste, development of creative and innovative leadership and serious punitive measures against corrupt practices.

Emmanuel Osei Gyamfi urged the youth to desist from tribal politics and rebuke any political party that seeks to divide this country on tribal path.
