The police at Ashaiman have arrested a 50-year-old drug peddler, David Larweh, alias Ogboro, and his 34-year-old accomplice, David Tetteh, a driver's mate.

The two were busted at the weekend in the night during a swoop carried out by the Ashaiman District Police aimed at ridding the municipality of criminal dens, especially those engaged in the narcotic and illegal drug trade.

Exhibits 
Eleven compressed slabs of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp concealed in a refrigerator together with some alcoholic beverages were retrieved from the suspect's room.

Other items retrieved from the suspects included eight pairs of scissors, six knives, three lighters and one machete all believed to be implements used for preparing the marijuana for users, an amount of GH¢776,000 in coins and paper denominations, as well as a slot machine.

Briefing journalists at Ashaiman, the Tema Regional Police Command Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Juliana Obeng, said the Ashaiman Divisional Police Command, acting on intelligence, conducted the swoop and at a spot popularly called "I shall Return" in the Zongo Laka suburb, the suspects were picked up.

She said the exercise was part of efforts of the police to get rid of notorious criminals in the area whose activities posed danger to innocent people, especially children.

Cooperation 
ASP Obeng called on residents of Ashaiman not to relent in furnishing the police with vital information on the clandestine activities of such criminals, assuring them that the police would act swiftly to clamp down on them.

She said the two suspects would be processed for court after enough evidence had been gathered by investigators.

Demolition 
Meanwhile, the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly Task Force has demolished the structure where the suspects were arrested. 

The task force explained that the structure was an unauthorised one and the exercise formed part of its effort to rid the municipality of such hideouts that promoted the drug trade.
