Zoomlion Ghana Launches 10th Anniversary In The Upper West Region

Zoomlion Ghana has officially launched its 10th Anniversary Celebration in the Upper West Regional Capital, Wa. As part of activities to mark the anniversary, the management and staff of Zoomlion Ghana will embark on a float around the principal streets of Wa on wednesday and also organise a health screening exercise on thursday for the general public to check and know their health status as stipulated in their programme line up.

However speaking at the launching forum of the anniversary at the forecourt of the Wa-naa's palace, the General Manager of Zoomlion Ghana Ltd, Edmond Kweku Vidjah in his welcome address enumerated some of the sucesses chalked by the company in its 10 years of operation. Accordun to him, the company has crawled, toddled and moved steadily like a child. He revealed that the company has been able to create jobs through the Public Private Partnership concept spearheaded by the Government of Ghana.

" Currently, we are managing a workforce of 85,000 project staff across the country and about 2,631 in the Upper West Region, and we have also established offices in each of the ten regionalcapitals as well as in all the 216 districts," he said. He added that the company has extended its services beyond the shores of Ghana to other countries including Angola, Equilatorial Guinea, Zambia, Sierra Leone, Togo and Liberia.

Mr. Edmond went on that, waste management was unattrative some few years back in history and people who were associated with it were often stigmatized. However, the story is different today, "people of the highest academic and social status are glad to be part of it". This feat,he said was attained out of their passion and deep love for their work and the people served. He acknoledged the immense contribution of the media in attaining this feat.

Addressing a community durbar of Zoomlion Ghana before the official launch, the Deputy Upper West Regional Minister, Dr. Musheibu Mohammed Alfa lauded Zoomlion Ghana Ltd for their commitment to assisting government to manage waste in the region and the country as a whole.

" Zoomlion Ghana Limited has since its establishment in 2006 shared the vision of Government to effectively manage the several tonnes of waste that are generated every day in our cities, towns and villages . They have done this in the region through a good partnership and collaboration with the Municipal/District Assemblies and also provided services to residential clients in the region. Through your partnership with our Assemblies, several containers have been located at vantage points for waste collection and disposal. It is our hope that the partnership with our Assemblies will be strengthened further to deliver more services for the benefit of our people," he said. He further indicated that 'government instituted the National Sanitation Day which falls on the first saturday of every month as part of its commitment to rid our nation of filth. ' The National Sanitation Day Policy was implemented to rekindle the spirit of communal labour and also ensure the participation of members of the community to manage their waste effectively.

Dr. Musheibu Mohammed Alfa noted that, the management and staff of Zoomlion Ghana Limited in the region have been so supportive in the clean-up exercises since the inception of National Sanitation Day. He therefore commended the management and staff of Zoomlion for their key role in the National Sanitation Day clean-up exercises. He concluded by expressing hope that the launch of the anniversary will spur Zoomlion on to continue to effectively deliver improved services and also urged the company to come out with cost effective and affordable ways of dealing with the waste created in homes.

The anniversary is celebrated under the theme: ....."drving an inpactful waste management in Ghana and beyond."
