Unemployed Jailed 48 Months For Stealing Conveyer Belt

A 21 year old unemployed has been sentenced to 48 months imprisonment in hard labour by the Tarkwa Circuit Court for stealing eight (8) pieces of conveyer belt value at GHC 2,868.00.

Accused person, Maxwell Kankam pleaded guilty to the crime.

Presenting the fact, Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the court presided over by Mr. Justice Emmanuel Bart-Plange Brew that the complainants are security officers at Goldfields Ghana limited,Tarkwa Mine whilst the accused person Maxwell Kankam, is a resident of Teberebe,Tarkwa.

He narrated to the court that on 20th April, 2016, the complainants were on their normal duty within the concession of the company.

The complainants on reaching south agglomeration area, they spotted accused person with eight (8) pieces of conveyer belt value GHC 2,868.00 and he was arrested.

The accused person Maxwell Kankam could not give any tangible reason and was handed over to the police for investigation whiles the exhibit is in the custody of complainant for safe custody due to its bulky nature.

Detective chief inspector Oscar Amponsah said the accused person was cautioned and after investigation, charged with the offence.
