While Attiatorme Yao was charged for robbery and causing harm, Agbodemegbo Atsu is facing charges of possessing narcotic drugs and smuggling items into prison.

The two accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charges, but were remanded by the court, presided over by Aboagye Tandoh. They are expected to reappear on May 11, 2016 for hearing.

Facts
Briefing the court, Chief Inspector Kwadwo Adu said the complainant is a vulcaniser who resides at Kotobabi, Baatsonaa, in Accra, whilst the accused person, Attiatorme Yao, is an unemployed man in the same area.

He said, on April 13, 2016, at about 2:30am, the complainant, Eric Johnson, was in bed with his fiancée, Baby Abla Dzorkpe, when he realised the door of his room had been forced open.

To the complainant’s utter dismay, Attiatorme Yao, aka Stone, entered and pulled out a pair of scissors and attempted to stab him, but he (Attiatorme Yao) was overpowered.

According to Chief Inspector Adu, in the process of struggling to free himself the accused person chopped off the complainant’s right ear and made away with his mobile phones -Nokia Lumia valued at GH¢180, Sony Ericson valued at GH¢280 -in addition to a cash sum of GH¢270.

The accused person also stole the key to the door of the complainant, went into his living room, and made away with his television set valued at GH¢150, a video deck valued at GH¢100 and cash in the sum of GH¢300.

A report was later lodged with the Baatsonaa Police, and the accused was subsequently arrested. The accused person, in his cautioned statement, admitted the offence and led the police to retrieve the phone from his room.

In a related development, the accused, whilst in detention, asked one Agbodemegbo Atsu to get cigarettes for him. However, luck eluded him, as he was arrested by the police on duty.

Agbodemegbo Atsu was caught in possession of six pieces of cigarettes. A further search on him revealed a wrapper of dried leaves, suspected to be Indian Hemp.

When questioned, he told the police on duty that he found the substance on the ground whilst sweeping and mistook it for toffee.

According to Atsu, until the police found the said substance on him, he had no idea what it was. He, however, admitted the offence in his cautioned statement, and pleaded for mercy, claiming to have a pregnant wife at home. The two accused persons have been charged and arraigned before the Circuit Court.
