MAY 1, 2016 LISTEN

It’s about time Ghanaians are introduced to entrepreneurship and saving skills at youthful, tender ages.

This, financial experts believe is the sure way to imbibe in them the idea of self-employment to help deal with unemployment in the country.

They made the call at a seminar organised by Greepec Consult in partnership with Oak Foundation at the Knutsford University College in Accra. The seminar was under the theme: Take Part, Save Smart.

It had the objective of promoting the financial rights of young people as part of the Global Money Week celebration.

The Global Money Week is an annual program initiated by Child and Youth Finance International (CYFI), an Amsterdam-based non-profit organization.

Founded in 2012, the Child and Youth Finance Movement provides financial education and inclusion to 100 million children in 100 countries by 2015.

Youngsters were introduced to varied entrepreneurial skills including how to save and responsible financial decision-making.

Keynote speaker at the event, Daniel Ankomah of Director of Corporate Hills Investment encouraged the youth to move beyond conceiving business ideas and practically get involved.

He said the youth must be ready to “dirty their hands and feet” if they want to achieve success.

Director of Greenpec Consult Ebenezer Annor urged young people to have confidence in themselves and take their destinies into their own hands.

He called on the youth to be creative, determined, optimistic and ready take risks. He noted the need for young people to save smart at youthful ages and take hold of every good opportunity that comes their way.
