National service personnel across the country from this year will have the opportunity to undergo an intensive career development program in a bid to build their capacity and prepare them for the job market.

According to the National Service Secretariat, the program forms of part of the a long term strategic plan to train and development of prospective personnel waiting for posting.

In view of this the secretariat has signed a 5-year partnership program agreement with the Association of Certified Accountants Ghana at its Headquarters in Accra.

Under the program, personnel will attend two months of intensive training workshop across the country starting from July to September aimed at equipping them to perform efficiently at wherever they will be posted to.

The Executive Secretary of the NSS Dr. Dr. Michael Whyte Kpesah signed for the secretariat while Mr Norman Williams initialed for ACCA Ghana.

The program has been introduced to sharpen skills of prospective personnel to avoid rejection of personnel and several complaints brought up by some organizations which service personnel were posted to.

Some of the concerns always raised by these institutions are absenteeism, lack of punctuality, poor work ethics and low skills.

Speaking after the signing of the agreement Dr. Kpesah Whyte said more often than not there has been a conversation in the country about the fact that graduates from tertiary institutions though brilliant and good are unable to apply what they learn in the classroom in the world of work.

Head of Portfolio in charge of East and West Africa ACCA said he believes the initiative will go a long way to help youth development in Ghana.

About 70,000 National Service personnel are posted every year to all sectors of the country to engage in many activities as required by law.
