APR 29, 2016 LISTEN

A woman who had her baby boy during a three-hour flight from Singapore to Yangon, Myanmar, on April 22, has paid tribute to staff by naming him after the airline.

Baby Saw Jet Star made an unscheduled arrival during Jetstar Asia flight 3K583, but was delivered safely onboard thanks to the crew and three doctors who were, conveniently, also on the flight.

The airline shared news of its youngest ever passenger on Facebook earlier this week, writing: ‘We’re most pleased to announce that a baby boy, named Saw Jet Star, was delivered safely onboard 3K583 by a team of doctors and the crew after the flight landed in Yangon on Friday, 22 April 2016.’

We're most pleased to announce that a baby boy, named Saw Jet Star, was delivered safely onboard 3K583 by a team of doctors and the crew after the flight landed in Yangon on Friday, 22 April 2016.

Both mother and son are in good health and have been discharged from the local hospital in Yangon.

The baby boy weighed six pounds, seven ounces and is the FIRST baby to be delivered on a Jetstar Asia flight and we will be contributing SGD1,000 worth of baby supplies to the family....

The plane was commencing its landing when the pregnant woman, who is from Myanmar, started experiencing labour cramps, Straits Times reports .

After the plane landed, they were preparing to move her when baby Jet Star decided he just couldn’t delay his own arrival any longer.

According to a Jet Star spokesperson (as in, for the airline, not the baby), other passengers cheered when the boy, who weighed six pounds, seven ounces, was born.

The mother was so relieved and delighted with her care, that she promptly named her son after the airline. Handily, her family name is Star so it wasn’t too much of a leap.

‘Our crew are trained to respond to all kinds of events on our aircraft, and we’re proud of the way they assisted with the help of generous doctors onboard to ensure the safe delivery of our youngest ever passenger,’ the spokesperson added, before saying that mum and baby were both doing well and had been discharged from hospital and the team had already been to visit.

Oh, and they’ve also now delivered 1,000 SGD (£500) worth of baby supplies to the family.

*Wonders what you get for giving birth on Easyjet*.
