Some youth in the Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly in the Ashanti Region are said to be conspiring to stall infrastructural development in the area.

Officials have had to contend with acts of saboteurs who are protesting the assembly’s initiatives for no apparent reason.

In the latest incident, unidentified youth at Aboabo chased out a contractor who had gone there to construct a fence wall for a cluster of schools.

Projects that suffered resistance from the youth include the construction of a district court at Asokore Mampong and a police station at Bobang.

The youth are also against a proposed fence wall for a cluster of schools at Aboabo Number One grounds it will restrict access to the compound for recreation.

A public forum to address the conduct of the youth was boycotted by the entire community.

Commencement of work on a nursing and physician assistant training school has already delayed.

Municipal Chief Executive, Nurudeen Hamidan, is surprised despite dialoguing and consulting with beneficiaries of the projects, the resistance persists.

Speaking at a commissioning of a library complex at Aboabo, Alhaji Hamidan blamed the situation on lack of education and called for the support of all in developing the area.

He tells Nhyira FM the assembly faces a herculean task of executing it’s development plans.

“In the past I was a bit surprise when I see development going on in other places and in our community it doesn’t come when we were under KMA now I begin to understand because when you are bringing development and you will definitely move it to where they will not resist. It is common here.

It’s a challenge that anytime you are moving development to the doorsteps of the people, they try to resist it”. Alhaji Hamidan complained.

For him, education is key in helping change the conduct of residents especially the youth to promote education.

“We need to change the psyche of the people for them to understand. If you have an informed community, you don’t to struggle to put on school. You don’t need to struggle to put on library; you don’t need to put on court.

That is why we are saying that when we are bringing development, we are bringing it for the benefit of everybody.

The plot of land in a school is meant for educational purposes. You can’t say for a mere fact that you are playing football you will not allow government to fence it”. He said.

Despite the resistance, the assembly has managed to complete the court and the police station projects.

Alhaji Hamidan indicated the assembly may be compelled to use of force to ensure smooth execution of its projects, with support from traditional authorities.
