Experienced banker, John Kofi Mensah is set to become the new Managing Director of the state-owned GCB bank.

Sources say after a series of interviews by the largest state bank, Mr. Mensah is being considered to replace Mr. Simon Dornoo as MD.

Mr. Dornoo is leaving the bank after nearly eight years of work as head of the bank. He took over from Mr. Lawrence Adu-Mante in March 2010.

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, Mr. Dornoo will be replaced by Mr. Kofi Mensah who is reputed to have a remarkable wealth of experience in banking.

Mr. Kofi Mensah resigned from First Capital Bank, formerly, First Capital Plus Savings and Loans, last year.

He was credited with overseeing the company’s transformation from a savings and loans firm into a full-fledged bank.

Before going to First Capital Plus as CEO, Mr. Mensah worked at uniBank as Deputy MD.

He holds an MSc. degree in Banking and Finance from FINAFRICA in Milan, Italy and a BA degree in Economics and Statistics from the University of Ghana, Legon.

Mr. Mensah has close to three decades of experience in banking with special expertise in Treasury Management, Credit Management, Foreign Operations amongst others.
