The Youth Business Network (YBN); an association of young and potential entrepreneurs in Ghana over the weekend launched their flagship program for this year; Young Entrepreneur Awards 2016 at the Azumah Nelson Sports Complex, Accra.

The launch which was held as part of the association’s monthly capacity building program witnessed the presence of some networked members, officials from the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) and the Ghana Aids Commission (GAC).

Speaking at the launch, Mr. Solomon Adjei, the Executive Director of YBN underscored the need for young people to unite as a body to foster developmental changes in the society, calling on all youth to join the network, particularly to take advantage of their free monthly capacity building workshops.

“All young people, regardless of gender, cultural background, political, religious or sexual orientation, economic or social status is entitled to the same opportunities that will facilitate their escape from poverty, and with unity, we can fight for what is rightfully ours”, he said.

Mr. Adjei said the association considers this award scheme a very pivotal point to recognize and celebrate young entrepreneurs below age 45, for their courage, inspiration and determination, with the focus of motivating the many jobs seeking youth to be jobs creators.

To be held on Saturday 27th of August, in Accra, the following categories will be honored;

1. Young Entrepreneur of the Year
2. Woman Entrepreneur of the Year
3. Social Entrepreneur of the Year
4. StartUp Entrepreneur of the Year
5. Student Entrepreneur of the Year:
6. Celebrity Entrepreneur of the Year
7. YBN Entrepreneur of the Year
8. YBN Sponsor of the Year
9. Non Ghanaian Entrepreneur of the Year
10. Mentor of the Year
11. Financier of the Year
The general public is however admonished to use their website www.youngentrepreneurawards.com to nominate deserving individuals in their communities for any preferred category. Entrepreneurs can also nominate themselves.

The AGI and the GAC through their representatives lauded the association for this initiative saying it is very timely in these times where youth unemployment is a major national issue, and they believe the awards will truly motivate more youth to venture into entrepreneurships.

The association also launched two other major initiatives; Success Summit 2016 and Youth Business Summit 2016.
