The National Peace Council has stepped up efforts to resolve a land dispute between traditional authority and Muslim youth in Old Tafo in the Ashanti Region.

One person has died, dozens injured, with properties running into several thousands of cedis lost to the conflict which began Tuesday.

A 6:00PM-6:00 AM curfew was imposed with a combined military and police personnel deployed to the area to maintain law and order and quell reprisals.

According to Joy FM's correspondent Nurudeen Mohammed business is moving slowly in an area usually brisk but the worst affected has been schools with the Old Tafo area.

The schools have remained closed in the Old Tafo area with fears school children may become easy targets in the conflicts.

While the security personnel are at it, officials of the National Peace Council are also engaging the leaders of both factions to find an amicable solution to the problem.

Chairman of the National Peace Council Rev Dr Emmanuel Asante said it will take sometime for peace to prevail.

"It is easy to engage in violence but takes time to broker peace," he said in an interview with Joy News' Francis Abban Friday.

He was however happy both sides have committed to peace and are meeting members of the peace council to resolve the matter amicably.

According to him the peace process has started. The Regional Peace Council has been involved from the inception. Yesterday they met with Muslim Youth. Today they will meet with the traditional authority.

Joy News checks also reveal the police are screening the over 40 suspects that have been picked up in the last two days to identify the masterminds of the clashes.
