A total of five persons have been picked up by the police to assist in investigations into the murder of the Abuakwa North MP, Joseph Boakye Danquah, early Tuesday morning.

Early on, three men, including the security man at the Shiashie residence of the MP, were in the house when the incident occurred, police told myjoyonline.com's David Andoh.

Joseph Boakye Danquah Adu was stabbed to death after some assailants went straight to the MP's bedroom. They used a ladder to enter the home and after struggling with him for a few minutes, they overpowered and stabbed him.

JB Danquah was named after a leader of Ghana's independence movement, Dr. JB Danquah who formed the United Gold Coast Convention in 1947. His liberal political ideology is the foundation of Ghana's largest opposition party, the New Patriotic Party, NPP.

Leaders of the party have been visiting the home of the slain politician where many others have gathered. The latest is NPP Vice-Presidential candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

He was accompanied by National Youth Organiser Sammy Awuku. Lawyer Gabby Otchere-Darko was also at scene of mourning as shocked party supporters and neighbours grapple with the news.
