You Are Ordained To Prosper
01.02.2016 LISTEN

God wants his children to be successful and prosperous. There are many scriptures to support this assertion.

In John 10:10 Jesus said: “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy; I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”

Psalm 35:27 tells us the Lord takes, “pleasure in the prosperity of his servant.”

In Psalm 1:1-3 the word of God says, “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”

From the aforementioned scriptures I can say without hesitation that we are ordained to prosper in this life and after.

Prosperity is not limited to just having lots of money. Biblical prosperity is more than having plenty money. It also means mental, physical and spiritual well-being. It means a life that is fulfilling, a life that is a blessing to others.

To the Christian, a prosperous life is one which offers opportunities to others to better their lives.

To achieve prosperity we must follow God’s own counsel. Psalm 1:1-3 gives us the conditions and the instructions necessary for receiving God’s prosperity and success.

First shun evil. You should not follow the path of the ungodly. The ungodly do not follow the teachings of God. They are rebellious and wicked.

We are also told to be mindful of sinners. These are people whose lustful desires lead them to sin. They lack self-control and self-discipline. As a result they easily play into the hands of Satan who use them to perpetrate wickedness against God’s children.

As a follower of Christ do not associate with the scornful. The scornful have no respect for God’s word. Instead of embracing God’s word, they discredit and hold it to ridicule.

Friend prosperity is received by faith. This means we must believe, speak and act on God’s word.

We should take delight in God’s word. We should meditate on it day and night. Meditation allows God’s word to govern our lives. When the gospel of Christ becomes the centre of our lives, we will make the right choices, become repentant and receive forgiveness and mighty blessings beyond our wildest dreams.

Meditation is a way of internalizing God’s word which can lead to renewal and complete transformation.

It will lead to our spiritual growth and maturity. That will give more meaning to life. We will love and appreciate ourselves. This will allow us to extend it to others.

Bible says when we meditate on God’s word; we will be like the tree that is planted by the river side. We know a tree that is planted by the river side will have all the nourishment it needs to be healthy and grow to maturity and bear good fruit. God’s word will do much the same for the Christian-we will thrive in Christ and bear good fruit. In other words we will receive God’s favour in terms of success and prosperity.

Once God’s word takes root in our lives we can be assured of prosperity in whatever we do for a living. That is his unfailing promise to us. Our prosperity should not be self-centred. We should use our prosperity to exert a positive influence in the world. When God has blessed you, it is your turn to bless others. That is the purpose of true prosperity.

Let me conclude this piece with my favourite quote on biblical prosperity which says, “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” (3 John 2).
