About 134 persons have been rendered homeless, after fire gutted 34 thatched houses at Ative-Korfeyie, a farming community in the Ketu North district of the Volta region.

The incident which occurred at about 1pm on Wednesday, according to Starr news sources was caused by game hunters who set fire to a nearby bush.

It took personnel of the Ghana National fire service from Akatsi and Dzodze close to four hours to put the fire under control, thus preventing it from engulfing the entire community.

No casualty was however recorded as majority of the residents were on their farms at the time of the disaster.

The affected residents, according to an official of the district National Disaster Management Organization, Bright Alormetu have been relocated into a nearby vocational school building as they arrange relief items for them.

Some of the affected victims said, they have lost their belongings as well as harvested farm produce to fire.

'Everything of ours has been burnt to ashes, clothes, food items, utensils, roofing sheets, even maize that we have harvested have been all been destroyed' a victim told this reporter..

Meanwhile, the Volta regional fire commander, ACFO Mawusi Sarpong and a team of fire officers, who visited the community has advised the residents to create fire belts not only on their farms but around the community to prevent future outbreaks.

She also cautioned them against game hunting with fire during this season and also ensure that, they handle naked fire with care.

She further commended her officers to their timely response to the fire which prevent any fatality.
