3 Fake Dollar Traders Nabbed

The Odorkor Divisional Police Command has apprehended three paddies who were trading in fake dollars at Odorkor and Sowutuom.

The suspects are Jerry Ankoma Jnr, 36, Stephen Forson aka Joe Broni, 25, and Lesley Adotey Allottey aka Hanson, 30.

They were apprehended at Ablekuma where they reside yesterday upon a tip-off.

Fake dollars amounting to $400 were retrieved from the suspects during the arrest.

Also, a box of rubber sealant, which some unscrupulous persons use as oil filters to defraud victims were found in their room upon a search, according to police reports.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mr Francis Aboagye Nyarko, the Odorkor Divisional Police Commander, confirmed to DAILY GUIDE that the police at Sowutoum received a report from a boutique seller that some guys visited her shop to purchase items valued GH¢1,400 early this year and paid in dollars.

The victim said the suspects gave her $400 dollars and collected GH¢200.00 as a change in addition.

The complainant said when she took the dollars to the nearest Forex Bureau to exchange later, she was told they were fake.

While the matter was under investigations, other victims reported to the Odorkor District Police that the suspects had used the same modus operandi to dupe them.

Investigations led to the arrest of the three suspects at their hideout at Ablekuma yesterday.

When their room was searched, rubber sealants were discovered in a box.

Upon interrogation, the three confessed that they received the fake dollar currency in Togo when they went there to trade during the Christmas holidays.

“We sold a laptop to a customer in Togo and he gave us the fake dollars.

Realizing that it was fake, we decided to use it so that we do not make losses, the suspects allegedly told the police.

The matter is still under investigations.
