Asantehene and 28 others honoured for development contribution

Kumasi, Nov. 30. GNA - The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and his wife, Lady Julia, have been honoured alongside 27 other individuals - chiefs, politicians, educationists and captains of industry, for their singular contribution to the socio-economic progress of the society.

They included Dr. Hanna Louisa Bisiw, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Member of Parliament (MP) for Tano South, Mr. Siaka Stevens, MP for Jaman North, Madam Elizabeth Oti-Akenten, former Berekum Municipal Education Director, Nana Wiafe Akenten III, Omanhene of Offinso, Barima Twereku Ampem III, Omanhene of Ntotroso, Nana Adusei Atwenewa Ampem, Omanhene of Tepa, and Odeneho Affram Brempong, Omanhene of Suma.

The others were Nana Abena Boatemaa, Queen of Odomase Number-One, Nana Adwoapo Dwamena Serwaah II, Queen of Bechem, Mr. Prince Yeboah Marfo, Principal Berekum College of Education, Mr. Benn Kujar, Group President Lymin Creek, Mr Alexander Asmah, Managing Director, Amenfiman Rural Bank, Mr. Wilson Arthur, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Wilsad Support Limited, and Mrs. Georgina A Tachie, CEO, Ginaat Hotel.

This was at the national excellence awards held at the Golden Tulip in Kumasi.

The programme was put together by Bombisco Productions - a multimedia company into publishing, advertising and event organization, and each of the awardee was presented with a citation.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu was hailed for his unique brand of leadership and enormous effort at helping to promote education through his Otumfuo Education Fund that has benefitted in excess of 5,000 students.

Also of special mention was his Health Fund, which was providing financial and material support towards the reduction of maternal and infant mortality, glaucoma and other eye diseases.

Nana Adusei Atwenewa Ampem used the occasion to rally his colleague chiefs to focus on uniting the people for development.

They should make sure that the resources entrusted to their care were used for the general good of the community. It should not just be about their personal comfort and convenience.

He asked them to avoid greed and selfishness, adding that, such traits could make the people feel betrayed.
