One 'E' Is Enough To Get You Out Of College And No Amount Of Social Media Intimidation Or Vandalism Will Save You - Prof. Ocansey

Prof. Fred Ocansey, director of the Institute of Education at the University of Cape Coast has stated that the state has come out with a new policy regarding the grading system of the Colleges of Education in the country and that an E after resit is what a student needs to get out of college or to be re-enrolled as a first year student. This is coming at the backdrop of massive demonstration organised by students of various colleges of education in the country following the withdrawals of some students for under performance during the second semester of the 2014/2015 academic year examination.

It will be recalled that some few weeks ago, student leaders from various colleges of education in the country inundated the media landscape of the country over unfairly withdrawal of their colleagues from school as a result of under performance but Prof. Ocansey in a speech delivered on his behalf by Dr. Eric Anane, a faculty member of the Institute of Education during the 4th Matriculation ceremony organised by the Methodist College of Education(METHCOE) Akyem Asene-Aboabo, Oda said, a new policy has been instituted and has been sanctioned by the ministry of education, the council of tertiary education and all other relevant stakeholders of education and is that, a student who gets an E after resit shall be withdrawn from school. ''No amount of social media intimidation or vandalism, though I know you here at METCOE will not do that can save you.'' He said. He therefore used the occasion to advise the students to be serious with their books to avert any such unpleasant occurrence.

On his part, Rt. Rev. Kwame Baffour Kyei, Bishop of the Akyem Oda diocese of the Methodist Church and the council chairman of METCOE speaking on behalf of the Chancellor of the school and the presiding bishop of the Methodist Church, Most Rev. Awotwe Pratt assured the students of the continuous support of the Methodist church for the school. He advised the students to see teaching as a vocation more than a profession so that they can embrace the path they have chosen in life well and to impact positively into the lives of the children they will be teaching after school. ''Students who pass here with the aim of passing through to become teachers and later find other jobs are those who often fail.'' He said.

The principal of the school, Mr. B. F. Annan encouraged the students to take their studies serious since any student who gets a first class will be given a scholarship to the University of Cape coast. He said though the school couldn't produce any first class student last year, the number of students who had second class upper was impressive and he is optimistic that a student can get first class during the final exams of this academic year. He added that the management is still working hard to get placement for the pioneers who graduated from the school.

In all, 93 students were matriculated to read various courses in diploma education in the school.
