The Turkey Karpower barge docked on Ghanaian waters last week awaiting further installation procedures and technical operation before it commences operation.

It is expected to reduce the impact of the power crisis when it starts to generate electricity.

Information gathered indicated that the first emergency 225 Megawatts capacity power barge from Turkey, arrived in the country on Saturday morning November 28, 2015.

The delay in documentation and routine formalities at the Abidjan port where the power barge was offloaded by the Black Marlin, a speed deck cargo ship which transported the power barge from Turkey cause the arrival day to be changed from Friday to Saturday last week.

President John Dramani Mahama is expected to formally inaugurate and inspect the power barge in some 10 days.

Ghana’s power crises intensified last week after the Aboadze gas plant was shut down to enable the African Middle East Investment (AMERI) Power Plant to be connected to the Volta River Authority thermal plants at Aboadzie.

When completed the power plant will generate additional 250 MW into the National Interconnected Transmission System (NITS).
