NOV 26, 2015 LISTEN

Three persons have been arraigned before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly snatching a Nissan Almera car worth GH¢40,000 from one Alberta Ayi-Bontey.

They are Kofi Kyeremeh, labourer; William Yaw Osei, driver and Jaliu Iddrisu, driver's mate.

The court, presided over by Aboagye Tandoh, dismissed an application for bail filed by the lawyers of the accused persons.

The prosecution, led by DSP Patience Mario, said that the accused persons also conspired and robbed Alberta of her I-phone 6 and accessories worth GH¢3,200, a wrist watch valued at GH¢350 and GH¢36, totaling GH¢43,586.

Kyeremeh is facing an additional charge of possessing a locally made pistol without lawful authority.

The accused persons denied the charges but were remanded into custody by the court until December 8, 2015.

Alex Abban, lawyer for Kyeremeh, said the facts from the prosecution do not support the charges preferred against his client.

He stated that the evidence was inconsistent, insisting that Yaw is a taxi driver who drove his car to Achimota to look for passengers.

Mr. Abban said the accused persons were victims of circumstances, adding that they were not the right persons to be arraigned before court.

Richard Saaka, who represented Yaw, urged the court to exercise its discretion in favour of three accused persons.

Abdul Aziz, lawyer for Jaliu, stated that Jaliu was just a passenger in the vehicle.

He said the prosecution had failed to link Jaliu to the supposed robbery and conspiracy.

DSP Mario said on November 6 at about 9:30pm, Alberta parked the said vehicle in front of her father's residence at Sakumono in order to open the main gate in order to drive into the yard.

She said suddenly a Mecedes Benz with registration GE 2529-12, blocked her and Kyeremeh asked her whether sachet water were manufactured in her father's house.

She said before the complainant could answer the question, the accused kicked her, pointed a pistol at her and threatened to shoot her if she shouted.

The other accused person subsequently robbed the complainant of the afore-stated items and cash.
